Frequently asked questions

  • Where is your data stored?
Where your data is stored is up to you! 1) You can upload it to the Eratos platform, where it is stored across a number of secure locations throughout Australia, enabled by our cloud infrastructure providers, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), with highly reliable servers that guarantee optimal uptime, and data security for all our customers and data. 2) You can keep your data stored in its current location, managed and owned by you! The Eratos platform brings together and connects large, siloed & disparate data, ready for analysis. This unique offering allows your data to be available via the platform, without the need for the transfer (moving) or replication (duplication) of data, reducing costs and maintaining data custodianship for the data owner.
  • How is your data secured?
At Eratos, our highest priority is securing our customers’ data, and we implement rigorous contractual, technical, and organizational measures to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the data. Eratos makes use of industry standard, and leading infrastructure and processes to ensure that your data remains secure. As part of ongoing security audits, we conduct vulnerability scans and penetration testing in order to identify and address potential vulnerabilities and risks. Cloud infrastructure is configured for monitoring of malware and viruses. Logs from Eratos services are aggregated and analyzed using industry standard tools. Security vulnerability scans and real-time threat detection are performed utilizing both this log data and AWS provided detection tools. No resource or PII information is stored within the logs.
  • Where does the name Eratos come from?
Eratosthenes is best known as the first person to calculate the circumference of the Earth, he was also the Chief Librarian at the Library of Alexandria. We took the name Eratos to pay homage to these two facets of Eratosthenes’ life. We see ourselves as a library of data related to Planet Earth.
